Vuyiswa has worked within the social justice and development arena for more than 25 years. Over this time, she has worked within government, focusing on donor monitoring and evaluation; as a Program Officer within the United Nations Development Program, managing a technical support facility targeting government programs; and for a nonprofit organization that trained NGO leaders and provided capacity strengthening support to other nonprofit organizations.
Vuyiswa joined the Ford Foundation Office for Southern Africa as a Program Officer in 2017, after spending over 12 years at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation where she served as the Country Director for South Africa since 2009. She was promoted to Regional Director in 2022. Vuyiswa holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Science (majoring in Biochemistry) from Wits University in South Africa. She currently serves as the Chair of the Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group Steering Committee, and a board member of Listen Charity South Africa.
